WHAT'S ON

THE NEW HOUSE OF ALIJN

The House of Alijn reopened on 16.12.2017. We give the visitors the first months the opportunity to completely dive into the new House of Alijn!

The new House of Alijn explores customs, traditions and rituals from the recent and distant past. From your first baby photos to your first heartbreak, from playing marbles in the playground to enjoying your yearly summer holidays, and from celebrating your retirement to parting with loved ones. How we deal with these moments and emotions evolves over time, both personally and universally.

EXHIBITION GENTSE FEESTEN

9 June – 2 September 2018

The Gentse Feesten (‘Ghent Festivities’) are a fixture in the lives of many generations of revellers. This year marks the event’s 175th year! Long before Walter De Buck became the face of the festivities at St. Jacob’s in 1969, Ghent was already the setting for an annual festival. In 1843, dozens of local neighbourhood festivals united, under the influence of Ghent’s industrial bourgeoisie, to create one big town-wide festival. The programme of events featured sporting activities and games, historical parades, markets and fairs. More than a century later, the Gentse Feesten had grown to become one of the largest and most-visited city festivals in Europe. The exhibition GENTSE FEESTEN presents a rich collection of posters and programmes, photos, film clips and interviews full of personal stories from then and now. The collection not only touches on important milestones but also gives insight into the evolution of the city and its dynamic, the festival and its attendees.
